The Government of Canada invests in environmental and clean-technology jobs for youth in Alberta

EDMONTON, Aug. 29, 2018 /CNW/ - The global economy is shifting toward clean growth and renewable energy. By investing in environmental and clean-technology jobs for today's youth, the Government of Canada is helping tackle climate change, protecting the environment, and creating jobs for Canadians. Giving Alberta youth a real and fair chance at success means helping them get the skills and training they need to get good jobs now and prepare for tomorrow.

Today, the Minister of Natural Resources, Amarjeet Sohi, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, announced that the Government of Canada is helping young graduates in Alberta gain valuable work experience in the clean-growth economy, through the Science Horizons Youth Internship Program.

Science Horizons provides wage subsidies to eligible employers in the environmental and clean-technology sectors to hire recent college and university graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Interns gain experience working on environmental projects lasting 6 to 12 months. Up to $15,000 in Science Horizons funding is available to employers for interns they hire.
