AFGE Endorses Colorado's Stephany Rose Spaulding for Congress


WASHINGTON, Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees today announced its endorsement of Stephany Rose Spaulding for the U.S. House of Representatives for Colorado's 5th Congressional District.

The largest federal employee union, the American Federation of Government Employees, has endorsed Stephany Rose Spaulding for election this November to the U.S. House of Representatives for Colorado's 5th Congressional District.

"Stephany Rose Spaulding is a first-time candidate for political office who was inspired to run for Congress after participating in the historic Women's March on Washington on Jan. 21, 2017," AFGE District 11 National Vice President Gerald Swanke said.

"Born and raised by public-school teachers in Chicago's South Side, Stephany overcame adversity to achieve a Ph.D. in American Studies from Purdue University before joining the faculty at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs ? where she would rise to become chair of the Women's and Ethnic Studies program," Swanke said.

"Stephany Rose Spaulding is the right candidate for the right time to flip Colorado's 5th Congressional District and provide a new voice and fresh perspective on how to tackle the critical issues facing our country," Swanke said.

About 55,000 federal employees live in Colorado ? caring for veterans, supporting our military, protecting our natural resources, and getting Social Security recipients their benefits accurately and on time. There are more than 21,200 current and retired federal workers in Colorado's 5th Congressional District.

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. District 11 represents more than 56,000 federal employees in Alaska, Colorado, Guam, Idaho, Montana, Okinawa, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
