The Royal Canadian Legion's 47th Biennial Dominion Convention opens in Winnipeg


"Embracing a modern-day Legion in the spirit of our Veterans"

OTTAWA, Aug. 25, 2018 /CNW/ -

 

WHAT:

Members of the Royal Canadian Legion will gather to elect new national officers to two-year terms and to develop and vote on resolutions focused on advocating for Veterans. Topics will include items such as providing free pension representation for Veterans in the federal court and legally recognizing Ocean War Graves.



WHEN:

Sunday, Aug. 26:  Parade at 10:00 a.m. and commemorative service at the Winnipeg Cenotaph at 10:20 a.m.




Sunday, Aug. 26:  Convention opening ceremony and remarks at 1:00 p.m.




Sunday Aug. 26 - Tuesday, Aug. 28: Some sessions open to media.




Tuesday, Aug. 28: Closing ceremony following installation of officers at 4:30 p.m.



WHERE:

Hall A in the Winnipeg RBC Convention Centre, 375 York Ave.



WHO:

Close to 1,000 Canadian delegates and representatives from European and other North American branches.




Opening Ceremony special guest: The Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.




Legion Grand President Larry Murray, Legion National Executive Director Brad White; elected members of the Executive Council such as 2016-2018 Dominion President David Flannigan, and Provincial Command Presidents including Ronn Anderson, President, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.
