Fasken Achieves Mansfield Certification

TORONTO, Aug. 23, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Fasken has received Mansfield Certification. This designation confirms that for the last year the Firm has considered women and/or visible minorities in 30% or more of at least 70% of all its senior positions.

That goal was the basis of the Mansfield Rule Pilot Project: to ensure diversity in everything from leadership and governance roles, to equity partner promotions and lateral hires at law firms.

"This achievement is reflective of our core values and beliefs," said Peter Feldberg, Firm Managing Partner. "We believe diversity and inclusion leads to better outcomes."

Fasken was part of the original 30 pilot law firms to commit to this project, and among the 41 that received this certification.

Stemming from the 2016 Women in Law Hackathon, hosted by Diversity Lab in collaboration with Stanford Law School and Bloomberg Law, the Mansfield Rule is a spin-off of the National Football League's Rooney Rule, which required each team to interview at least one visible minority for head coaching positions.

Named after Arabella Mansfield - the first American woman admitted into the legal profession in 1869 - all participating firms have to track their consideration of female candidates.

"We surpassed the 30% threshold and hit 44%," said Katherine Pollock, chair of the Partnership Board's Diversity and Inclusion Committee. "This is a great step forward for the Firm."
