4Ocean Launches New Cleanup Division in Haiti

BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- 4Ocean (www.4Ocean.com), an ocean cleanup company headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, has expanded their operations with a new international division in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

With efforts well-established in South Florida since January 2017 and Bali, Indonesia since May, 2018 the opening of 4Ocean's third cleanup division in Haiti marks a major milestone for this global movement. The company identified Haiti as a "high-impact area" in February 2018. Just six months later, the 4Ocean Haitian two-acre cleanup facility has become the operational headquarters for a fleet of plastic and trash recovery vessels with captains and crews cleaning the ocean and coastlines seven days a week.

"High-impact areas are places where ocean pollution is rampant," says 4Ocean Co-Founder Andrew Cooper. "In Haiti, our cleanups will happen primarily along the coast and at river mouths to the ocean, where we can intercept and remove plastic and trash from the water and land before it reaches the open ocean."

The company's initial goal is to pull at least 3,000 pounds of plastic and trash from the waters and beaches of Haiti every day. With support from the Haitian government, U.S. Department of Commerce, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 4Ocean Haiti is poised to make a significant impact in both the future of the ocean and the lives of many thousands of people.

"The enthusiastic response from the Haitian government and citizens has been incredible. We're honored to work alongside the Haitian community to clean our oceans and help restore the prosperity and beauty of the island," says 4Ocean Co-Founder Alex Schulze.

4Ocean has created and partnered with local Haitian programs to help raise awareness among the Haitian community about the impact of plastic pollution on the environment and communities.

"An increased awareness of the problem and its impact encourages individuals, communities, businesses, and governments to change the way they think about and consumer plastic. When hundreds and thousands and millions of people take small actions to prevent plastic from entering the ocean, we can have a massive impact on its future," says Cooper.

"Our goal is to become the largest ocean cleanup company in the world," says Schulze. "We have already identified other high-impact areas and expect to open additional cleanup headquarters that pull plastic and trash in areas where it will make the greatest difference for the ocean and the communities who rely on it to survive."

Since its founding in January 2017, 4Ocean has pulled over 1.1 million pounds of plastic and trash from oceans and waterways.

4Ocean (www.4Ocean.com) is a sustainability brand started by two surfers with a vision of cleaning the ocean and coastlines, one pound at a time. Global cleanups are funded entirely through the sale of sustainability products, where every item purchased funds the removal of at least one pound of trash from the ocean. By creating jobs, utilizing the latest technology, and raising awareness about the impact of trash in the ocean, the company is building the first economy for ocean plastic and creating a cleaner, more sustainable future for the ocean.
