1,900 municipal leaders come together for 2018 AMO Conference


OTTAWA, Aug. 20, 2018 /CNW/ - The Association of Municipalities of Ontario's (AMO) Annual Conference kicked off in Ottawa today with Premier Doug Ford and all other party leaders addressing municipal leaders from hundreds of communities across Ontario.

"Ontario comes together at AMO," said Lynn Dollin, AMO President. "Local governments deliver the services that people use most often. The Conference is a chance for municipal and provincial leaders to work together to solve shared challenges and to create opportunities for all of Ontario's communities."

Premier Doug Ford gave his first formal address since the provincial election. He spoke to a packed room of municipal leaders and committed to working together to deliver better results for people. He prioritized infrastructure, transit and public safety. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, Liberal Leader John Fraser and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner also addressed delegates. The Conference is Ontario's top educational forum for municipal governments, attracting more than 1,900 participants. This year's program features more than 70 sessions, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities. Key topics include infrastructure, cannabis legalization, trade, waste diversion, and more.

The Conference continues on Tuesday, August 21 at the Shaw Convention Centre. Highlights include:
