Media Advisory - #DoorsOpenOntario 2018 continues this fall: Discover fun, free events across the province!

TORONTO, Aug. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - From theatres to breweries, historical buildings to trails ? including Canada's first elevated park ? hundreds of fascinating sites are participating in Doors Open Ontario this fall. Starting August 18 and running through October 13, discover the story behind every door as 22 more communities across the province open their doors to the public at select Doors Open Ontario events.

Numerous sites are also offering special tours, lectures, exhibits and performances to help you explore the stories inside ? all free of charge!  Visit the Doors Open Ontario website at doorsopenontario.on.ca for detailed event information to help plan your experience.

The Ontario Heritage Trust is also excited to announce special programs and pop-up events for the fall season. On September 14, the Ontario Heritage Trust will partner with Doors Open Waterloo Region to host a fun-filled launch event at the Waterloo County Gaol and Governor's House. On October 13, the Trust will partner with the Timmins Museum for a Doors Open Ontario pop-up event across northeastern Ontario. On December 8, the Trust will host a Doors Open tour and panel discussion of mid-century modern buildings in Waterloo region. The panel will feature Professor Rick Haldenby, University of Waterloo, and Alex Bozikovic, Architecture Critic at the Globe and Mail.

In 2018, the Ontario Heritage Trust is exploring the theme of 100 years of women's rights and suffrage, looking back to the end of the First World War ? a time that saw great change for women in our society. Throughout the year, the Trust will be sharing stories about Ontario's trailblazing women and the enduring fight for equality. Doors Open Ontario provides an opportunity to visit interesting sites that relate to this chapter in our history.

Doors Open Ontario is a program of the Ontario Heritage Trust and is recognized as one of the 2018 Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario. This event receives funding support from the Celebrate Ontario program and has been financially assisted by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, a program of the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, administered by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund Corporation.
