Saint-Laurent Pleased to Take Part in the Electric BIXI Pilot Project

SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Aug. 15, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Saint-Laurent's Administration is pleased to be part of the BIXI electric pilot project that will be launched this Wednesday, August 15, 2018. In collaboration with BIXI Montréal and the AlterAuto Committee made up of municipal employees, five self-service electric power-assisted bicycles will be made available to Borough employees, free of charge, until October 31, 2018, in a closed circuit linking two stations, at the municipal workshops and the Côte-Vertu metro station (Place Rodolphe-Rousseau).

"We are proud to participate in this pilot project, which once again demonstrates the will to bring and maintain Saint-Laurent at the forefront of new technologies. This potential innovation is perfectly in line with our values and our objective of promoting active, sustainable, ecological transportation. The project is also in keeping with three of the six local plans adopted in 2017, namely those relating to mobility, sustainable development and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. And lastly, we are glad to be able to give our employees the opportunity to be the first to test this new technology," stated Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa.

These tryouts will offer employees?and particularly those in the municipal workshops?an additional innovative solution for getting around faster and more easily. Since 2004, in collaboration with Mobilité alternative (MOBA, the transportation division of Développement économique Saint-Laurent ? DESTL), Saint-Laurent has been providing its employees with access to self-service bicycles through the AccèsVélo program.

Saint-Laurent employees will not only have the pleasure of being the first ones to try out this new technology developed by the Québec firm PBSC Urban Solutions, they will also be involved in its evaluation by answering a questionnaire after each use. In return, they will be the only ones to have access to stations, connected to the electrical network, that allow bicycles to be recharged.

The other part of the tryouts will be carried out on BIXI Montréal's existing network infrastructure. The data collected during the pilot project, which will end on November 15, 2018, will be used, among other things, to evaluate user interest and behaviour in preparation for a possibly larger-scale implementation of this technology in Montréal.
