Government of Canada provides skills training and job opportunities for young Canadians in Mont-Saint-Hilaire
MONT-SAINT-HILAIRE, QC, Aug. 14, 2018 /CNW/ - Building a strong middle class means giving Canada's youth the tools they need to find and keep good jobs.
Today, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce?Westmount, on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, announced funding that will help up to 134 young Canadians develop their skills and get hands-on work experience.
The Government of Canada will provide a total of more than $1.5 million in funding to Intégration Compétences for its Avenir Durable and Jeunes Diplômés projects through the Skills Link and Career Focus programs. One project will help post-secondary graduates gain more experience in their field of study to help them transition to the labour market and to keep a good job. Participants can also receive help to further their education. The second project will help youth develop essential skills for interviews, job searches and networking. Youth will also have opportunities for paid work experience in such areas as technology, manufacturing, the information and cultural industry, business administration, agriculture and telecommunications. Among the projects' participants will be newcomers, an underrepresented segment of the population that the government considers a national priority.
Career Focus and Skills Link are two of three program streams under the Government's Youth Employment Strategy. Each year, the Government invests more than $330 million in YES to help support young Canadians to get the skills, abilities and job experience they need to find and maintain a good job.

Each year, the Government invests over $330 million in the Youth Employment Strategy to help young people gain the skills and work experience they need to find and maintain good employment.
- Through Budget 2018, the Government is providing an additional $448.5 million over five years, starting in 2018?19, to the Youth Employment Strategy. This funding extends commitments made in 2016 to nearly double the number of Canada Summer Jobs for summer 2019, creating up to 70,000 opportunities for youth annually.
