Ottawa children as young as 10 years old receive hands-on driving experience from retired professional race car driver

OTTAWA, Aug. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - The cross-Canada kartSTART program is stopping in Ottawa for the first time.

kartSTART is a fun and exciting way for kids to establish a solid foundation for safe and responsible driving habits well before they're old enough to get their driver's license.

Led by retired professional race car driver Russ Bond and funded by Toyota, the kartSTART program is a truly unique half-day course that gives kids between 10 and 16 years old the opportunity to learn some driving skills and vehicle safety fundamentals using a car just their size ? a go-kart!

New to this year's program is a professionally-designed go-kart made accessible for kids with physical disabilities so that they can drive, too. The accessible go-kart looks the same as the other karts, but with hand-controlled throttle and braking incorporated into the design of the steering wheel.
