DriveScale to Share Benefits of Software Composable Infrastructure at Flash Memory Summit

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --  DriveScale, the leader in delivering Software Composable Infrastructure (SCI) for modern workloads and a 2018 Cool Vendor by Gartner for Cloud Infrastructure,  today announced that CTO Brian Pawlowski will host an Experts table on composable storage, present a paper and a deliver a talk at the Flash Memory Summit, August 7-9, 2018 in Santa Clara, Calif. Pawlowski's talk, "Flash Considerations for Software Composable Infrastructure," and his paper presentation, "Using Flash Memory Cost-Effectively in Software Composable Infrastructures," both explore how to build a data center scale-out solution for big data applications using composable infrastructure and will highlight how to reduce the cost of flash while also ensuring the high performance of solid state storage.

Additionally, Laura Lilyquist, DriveScale's vice president of Marketing, and former Sun Microsystems, Microsoft and VMware executive, will host an Experts table on software defined storage.

"The introduction of modern workloads designed for today's social, mobile, analytics and IoT applications, has ushered in the need for a data center evolution. Solid-state storage has become critical for these types of workload deployments because it provides higher performance and density, as well as a smaller footprint and lower power usage than disk storage," said Pawlowski. "However, new flash drives also lead to expensive over-provisioning and zero flexibility to change storage-to-compute ratios after installation. My session will explore a new approach to distribute and process data across large clusters of servers and will ensure the performance gains expected from solid-state storage while simultaneously reducing the cost of deploying flash-based applications."

DriveScale's SCI technology disaggregates compute and storage into pools of available resources. It easily and quickly composes the pools into the right ratio of compute to storage for each application workload, under software control. Enterprises benefit from this composability because they have to buy only the required compute and storage, and can scale the resources up and down independently according to the needs of each application. The company recently announced SCI for Flash, which composes NVMe drives and presents them to servers on the same network as locally-attached drives. The solution makes deploying flash affordable and flexible for cloud infrastructures and targets modern applications such as NoSQL, Spark and Containers and solves the over-provisioning, flexibility and lifecycle management issues that plague IT teams using flash-based, cloud-native applications.

Flash Memory Summit is the world's largest event featuring the trends, innovations, and influencers driving the adoption of flash memory in demanding enterprise storage applications, as well as in smartphones, tablets, and mobile and embedded systems. The conference showcases the mainstream applications, key technologies, and leading vendors that are driving the multi-billion dollar memory and SSD markets.
