WOKING, England, July 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --
- New survey from Harvey Water Softeners in partnership with TalkHealth reveals three in four people feel skin conditions have affected their body confidence
A new study conducted by Harvey Water Softeners in partnership with TalkHealth revealed that skin conditions have an overwhelming negative effect on overall life satisfaction. 100% of the 842 respondents of the survey said that their skin conditions had affected one or more elements in their life, which included body confidence, financial, work, family, relationships, health and wellbeing.
The biggest concern was body confidence, with 76% of respondents saying that they felt their skin condition had affected their overall body confidence. This comes at a time where concern over body confidence is an all time high, with trend data from Google showing a steep and consistent rise in 'body positivity' interest over the last two years.
65% of respondents felt their skin condition had affected their general health and wellbeing. Part of wellbeing includes mental health, which is of increasing importance as we approach National Suicide Prevention day at the end of summer. Research shows that mental health worsens within a society obsessed with social media such as Instagram, where skin is often portrayed as flawless.
15% of respondents felt their skin condition had affected them financially. The study also showed that 50% of those suffering with dry skin spend more than £120 per year on products to treat it. Skincare products may include moisturisers, dermatologically friendly soaps and cleansers as well as repairing oils and creams.
Further questions revealed that £120 was the minimum spent on products each year, as 10% of the 842 respondents claimed that they spend between £26 and £50 a month, which would result in anything up to £600 per year.
