Bankers Healthcare Group Donation Fills Immediate Need for House Calls for the Homeless

SYRACUSE, N.Y., July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A new program called House Calls for the Homeless?which provides medical care to the unsheltered homeless in Syracuse, N.Y.?is now able to provide patients with much-needed pieces of healthcare, thanks, in part, to a $15,000 donation from Bankers Healthcare Group, the leading provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals.

House Calls for the Homeless was started this month by Dr. David Lehmann, Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University. In addition to his responsibilities at the hospital, he now provides basic medical care to those who wouldn't otherwise receive it?and he does it on their terms.

The patients on the street are reached through John Tumino, founder of In My Father's Kitchen.  Dr. Lehmann treats homeless who suffer from a variety of medical complications?from high-blood pressure, diabetes and bacterial infections to bug bites and lacerations?while Tumino's organization delivers food, clothing and basic living necessities. Above all, they both share a goal of building trust through relationships.

A financial gap for House Calls for the Homeless exists to address the healthcare that Dr. Lehmann gives. The seed money donated from BHG to In My Father's Kitchen provides much needed start-up assistance for House Calls for the Homeless to provide:

"Access to medical care and interventions that promote a healthier life are core functions of this initiative," said Dr. Lehmann. "This service is critical to those on the street, and as the program grows, so, too, will the expenses. Having a partner like BHG helps to reduce the financial burden and provides opportunities to those in need."

"BHG's donation will help us to improve and raise the quality of life of our homeless friends so that, ultimately, their hopelessness will no longer consume them," said Tumino. "This generous pledge means we can bring vital medical help to the streets of our community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who feel invisible."

"We are incredibly humbled by the selfless care and love that Dr. Lehmann and John provide to the homeless in our community," said Chris Panebianco, Chief Marketing Officer at Bankers Healthcare Group. "Our specialty at BHG is serving the healthcare industry. We place an immeasurable value on partnerships like this one that enable us to support and empower healthcare professionals to do what they do best?care for those who need it the most."
