EPAM Supports The Scratch Foundation In Its Mission To Expand Learning Opportunities For The Next Generation Of Children

NEWTOWN, Pa., July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- EPAM Systems, Inc. (NYSE: EPAM), a leading global provider of digital platform engineering and software development services and longstanding collaborator of the Scratch Foundation, will support the 2018 Scratch Conference at MIT in Cambridge, MA from July 26-28, 2018. The event will bring together hundreds of educators and technologists to share ideas on expanding tech education among children around the world.

Developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, Scratch is a programming language and online community used by young people (ages eight and up) to code and share interactive games, stories, and animations. During this event, attendees will hear from experts and share best practices in using Scratch, as well as learn the functionality and features of the new version of the platform, Scratch 3.0.

"EPAM started its work with Scratch three years ago through its eKids program, which leverages our knowledge and technical expertise to educate the next generation of technologists," said Larry Solomon, Chief People Officer, EPAM. "We are fortunate to have the opportunity through Scratch to work with children around the world and share our passion for technology with them."

EPAM eKids encourages primary-aged children to explore software engineering through hands-on challenges and mentoring opportunities with EPAM employees. To date, the program has reached over 1,500 children across 15 countries, and 760 EPAM employees have donated over 32,000 volunteer hours to teach children how to code.

"As children create and share projects with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively," said Mitchel Resnick, Professor of Learning Research at the MIT Media Lab and founder of Scratch. "We appreciate EPAM's support in helping today's children prepare for tomorrow's society."
