First-ever AWIT Spotlight Award Winners Announced by CompTIA


DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., July 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Three women singled out for their commitment, leadership and mentorship in the information technology (IT) industry and a recent high school graduate who plans to study electrical and computer engineering in college are the recipients of the inaugural CompTIA AWIT Spotlight Awards.

Also, Sarah E. Johnson of Philadelphia is the recipient of the inaugural CompTIA/Channel Pro Cecilia Galvin Scholarship, named in memory of ChannelPro editor and journalist Cecilia Galvin, a passionate supporter of women in technology.

"Women such as Roberta, Kathryn and Sheryne, who have overcome obstacles to earn leadership positions within the tech industry, are the inspiration for next-generation leaders like Sarah," said Nancy Hammervik, CompTIA's executive vice president for industry relations. "Role models and mentors are the best and strongest response we have to address the tech industry's gender diversity challenges."

The new awards program, established by the CompTIA Advancing Women in Technology (AWIT) Community, spotlights women who have emerged as leading voices for mentorship, diversity and career opportunities within the tech industry.

Meet the 2018 AWIT Spotlight Award Winners

Roberta J. Fox received the Industry Leadership Award in recognition of her commitment to both her personal and industry communities. Fox was praised for "creative, innovative style of working with organizations" and her ability to leverage her knowledge of advanced technologies to deliver sustainable results for organizations.

Kathryn Rose is the recipient of the Mentorship Guide Award. She was singled out for her advocacy and leadership on behalf of all women seeking to advance in their chosen careers. Rose was described as being "resilient in her own career" and "relentless in her pursuit of knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge with others."

The Technical Pacesetter Award was presented to Sheryne Glickman, who was cited for her true leadership and authentic passion. Glickman "has given thousands of her hours to community work." This is in addition to her contributions to the industry, creating programs and workshops to help technology companies become more efficient and successful.

Scholarship winner Sarah E. Johnson has been interested in technology from a young age. She joined a robotics club in sixth grade and has always had an interest in engineering. Since 2016 she's competed in the NAACP's Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, winning several medals for her projects. This fall Johnson plans to attend the New York Institute of Technology, where she'll study electrical and computer engineering.

The 2018 AWIT Spotlight Award winners will be recognized at CompTIA's ChannelCon 2018, the premier networking and training event for today's leading and emerging tech companies.
