Couple Overcomes Fertility Challenges and Setbacks with Aid from Kolb Fertility to Welcome Baby via IVF and Surrogacy

PASADENA, Calif., July 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --  With help from Bradford Kolb, MD, FACOG, and his team at Kolb Fertility, Jana and Cory have fulfilled their dreams of having a child.

Couple Overcomes Fertility Challenges and Setbacks with Aid from Kolb Fertility to Welcome Baby via IVF and Surrogacy

Intended parents often need reproductive assistance in the form of in vitro fertilization (IVF), egg donation or surrogacy. But for Jana and Cory, it would take almost three years and multiple round of IVF before achieving a healthy pregnancy.

Jana had already learned to persevere some twenty years ago after an accident left her quadriplegic. And while she could carry a child, there were additional risks involved.  So the couple decided to use a surrogate?which actually brought them closer together in that they both had to place their control in the hands (or womb) of another person.

And yet, Jana and Cory also discovered that they were both carriers for cystic fibrosis during their first attempt at IVF, which did not produce any embryos.  The second cycle only produced embryos that were chromosomally abnormal and the other tested positive for the disease.  And on the third attempt the transfer did not take.

When the surrogate left on the fourth attempt, the couple were emotionally spent.  The only thing that kept them going, says Jana, was the "open and supportive team at Kolb Fertility."  Even so, they decided their fifth attempt would be their last.  Dr. Kolb implanted their one healthy embryo into their new surrogate?and then it finally happened.  They were pregnant.  In April of 2018, they greeted Griffin, a healthy baby boy.

Ultimately, what got the couple to the point of parenthood was not just perseverance, but celebrating every success along the way?whatever the final outcome.   What is Jana and Cory's advice to other would-be parents undergoing IVF?  "Find the right support system and just trust in the process."
