MacLeod first PEITF official ever elected as President-Designate of the Canadian Teachers' Federation


EDMONTON, July 13, 2018 /CNW/ - Delegates attending the Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) Annual General Meeting have elected Bethany MacLeod of the Prince Edward Island Teachers' Federation (PEITF) as the national President-Designate. MacLeod will be succeeding CTF President H. Mark Ramsankar, whose term ends in July 2019. This is the first time in the CTF's 98-year history that the presidency will be held by a PEITF official.

MacLeod joined the PEITF in 2010, and has served as the PEITF's President since 2015. Her expansive involvement includes membership to Economic Welfare, Finance and Property, Diversity and Equity, Ethics, Public Relations, and Group Insurance Trustees committees. She has also represented Canadian teachers abroad, having participated in Education International conferences and the International Summit on the Teaching Profession. During her CTF presidency, MacLeod is dedicated to addressing issues related to mental health, child poverty, gender equity, social justice, and adequate school resourcing.

In addition to MacLeod's election, four other leaders in public education were named as CTF Vice-Presidents to serve on a one-year term. The following list contains the CTF Executive Committee for 2018-2019:
