Wigs for Kids Day at the Zoo 5K Run + 1M Fun Walk Pre-Registration Ending

CLEVELAND, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The 12th annual Day at the Zoo 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk is being held at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on July 21, 2018, to benefit Wigs for Kids, and pre-registration for the event ends on July 18 at midnight.

Since 1981, thousands of children in the United States have been served by Wigs for Kids. As the first and oldest hair donation organization in the country, its hair pieces?all free of charge?are hand-made to fit each child perfectly, so they will stay in place even when swimming or playing sports.

Wigs for Kids Day at the Zoo 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk is expected to host hundreds of runners and walkers and will begin at 7:00 A.M. with registration and will also include cut-a-thons happening live on stage at the race and throughout the United States at select salons. All race participants will receive an event t-shirt, gain access to family-friendly activities at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Rainforest, and will support kids like 10-year-old Taylor.

Taylor Gravagna lost her hair due to Alopecia. Recently, her mom posted a video of Taylor receiving her wig, and it went viral with more than 10,000,000 views on social media channels. Because of the Wigs for Kids program, she's been able to feel confident and boost awareness for kids facing hair loss.

"This (wig) is beyond," Taylor says in the video. "Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited! I love this! I have hair!"

Interested in signing up for the Wigs for Kids Day at the Zoo 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk to support kids like Taylor? Simply visit wigsforkids.org/wigs-for-kids-day-at-the-zoo for event details. The 5K run and 1-mile walk are $30 for pre-registration (which ends on July 18 at midnight) and $35 the day of the event. For children 10 and under, the 1-mile walk is $20.

Wigs for Kids is also seeking event sponsors, small groups to create virtual fundraisers, and individuals interested in donating their hair for the cut-a-thon. By donating your hair in the cut-a-thon at the 5K, you'll receive free zoo admission for the day.
