PSTA Supports ETSI MCPTT Plugtests Featuring Mission Critical Voice, Video and Data Tests

FREMONT, Calif., July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The capabilities of Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT), Mission Critical Data (MCDATA) and Mission Critical Video (MCVIDEO) were tested during an intensive week of more than 300 combinations of vendors and equipment at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas from June 25-29.

Sponsored in part by the Public Safety Technology Alliance (PSTA), the second European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) MCPTT Plugtests, based on 3GPP Release 14,  attracted a total of 31 vendors, with 120 participants onsite, and support from remote labs. Observers from nine organizations based in France, the UK and the US witnessed more than 2,000 tests, based on a test plan with more than 100 test cases, resulting in a 92% success rate. A full report and the test specifications will be made publicly available on the ETSI website. The newly added MCPTT Plugtests scenarios will go through ETSI Technical Committee TCCE for approval and will become part of ETSI TS 103 564.

"The PSTA was pleased to sponsor this critically important MCPTT event and looks forward to sharing the final report and test specifications with the PSTA's mission critical services committees for additional review, analysis, discussion and recommendations," said Maggie Goodrich, PSTA Board Member. "The PSTA plans to participate in future plugtest events centered around mission critical services as well as features, such as single sign on, situational awareness and cybersecurity," she continued.

Building on the first MCPTT Plugtests in June 2017, this is the first of a new series of events to evaluate public safety Long Term Evolution (LTE) capabilities and the interoperability of MCPTT products and services outside Europe, and was the first Plugtest in the world to run tests to evaluate MCDATA and MCVIDEO. The goal of the Plugtests is to validate the 3GPP standards and provide a platform for vendors to test new and existing products and their implementation, with a focus on interoperability. The 3GPP observations from the testing will be sent to the appropriate 3GPP working groups for correction or clarification of the 3GPP specifications, with the ultimate goal of achieving interoperability.

Planning for the next MCX Plugtests (the "X" stands for PTT, VIDEO and DATA) is underway and the PSTA will share the dates and location on its website when available.
