Tufts Health Plan Rated 100 Percent on Annual Disability Equality Index and Named a "Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion"

WATERTOWN, Mass., July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Tufts Health Plan has been recognized by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the Disability:IN in their fourth annual Disability Equality Index (DEI), with a score of 100 percent.

"We are very proud to receive this distinction, as it showcases our constant efforts to foster an inclusive workforce," said Lydia Greene, Tufts Health Plan's chief human resource officer. "At Tufts Health Plan, diversity and inclusion are core elements of our mission, values, and corporate strategy; by making it a part of the everyday employee experience and nurturing our employee-led programs, we see tremendous results, such as this terrific honor.  We thank AAPD and Disability:IN for this recognition and for bringing the importance of inclusion of people with disabilities to a national stage."

Tufts Health Plan's employee business resource group, Parallel, helped lead the effort to submit for the annual DEI listing. Parallel's mission is to promote understanding and raise awareness of people with disabilities through acceptance, inclusion, representation and access to accommodations. The goals of Parallel are to dispel myths and misconceptions of people with physical and non-visible disabilities and to create a supportive and accommodating workplace without barriers.

Participants in the survey are leaders across 25 unique business sectors and have a global presence of over 7.8 million employees. The DEI is designed by disability advocates and business leaders as a comprehensive benchmarking tool for disability inclusion. The Index measures key performance indicators across organizational culture, leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity.

"We applaud those companies that choose to take the DEI year after year and truly commit to advancing disability inclusion," said Jill Houghton, President and CEO of Disability:IN. "Although we are far from true inclusion of people with disabilities across the enterprise, the DEI signals corporate America is recognizing inclusion as a competitive edge and beneficial for all."

The DEI is a joint initiative between Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). The benchmark was developed by the two national leaders in consultation with the appointed DEI Advisory Committee, a diverse and voluntary group of experts in business, policy, and disability advocacy.
