Queer and Southern God is a thought-provoking short film that follows the story of a transgender sexual assault victim, Hank, set in rural Tennessee. Hank finds himself pregnant and hasn't had a God to turn to in a minute. He's got his Mama, but she's busy drinking her Budweiser and smoking the Kools. It just may take the spiritual guidance of the town loon to show Hank another way of looking at the world and "God".

Written and directed by Melisse Tokic, the coming of age tale explores the importance of various spiritual paths, addiction, microaggressions and hope after violence painted by a cast of colorful characters who show Hank another way of looking at the world and God. The goal is that this story will be developed in to a series.

As an activist and filmmaker, Melisse wanted to change the way minorities are disproportionately portrayed in the media - her vehicle is film. She assembled a board and has been granted 501c3 status for "Dialogue Films", a non-profit that awards marginalized filmmakers grants to make their own projects. Melisse is determined to make this cause her life's work while still playing the role of wife, mother and mental health counselor.
