LifeVac Choking Rescue Device Registers 12th Life Saved

NEW YORK, July 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeVac, the patented non-powered single patient portable airway clearance device developed for resuscitating an aspirating victim, announces today that using the device has saved a 12th life.

Tina, a mother based in Idaho, purchased LifeVac from her CPR trainer. She was in the car driving on the freeway when her disabled adult son, Rhett, began choking on a French fry.

"[Rhett] is in an electric wheelchair and his chair is tied down in the van," said Tina. "If I wouldn't have had the device, it would have taken me too long to get him out of the van and out of his chair to do the Heimlich. It took me seconds to get the device out, put it together and use it to dislodge the fry. If it wasn't for LifeVac, my son wouldn't be here."

Choking is the cause of more than 5,000 deaths annually and leads to 100,000 visits to the emergency room every year. LifeVac is a patented device developed for resuscitating a victim with an airway obstruction when other methods and protocols, such as the Heimlich maneuver, are not successful.

The negative pressure generated by the force of the LifeVac suction is 3 times greater than the highest recorded abdominal thrust. LifeVac is capable of generating over 300 mmHg of suction. The duration of suction is minimal, so LifeVac is safe and effective. No prescription is required.

Since May 2016, LifeVac has registered a total of 12 lives saved from around the world. LifeVac was recently awarded a United States patent for "Choking Intervention Device and Method Of Use Thereof."

LifeVac founder and CEO, Arthur Lih, says the device was developed to save lives. "I was in a hospital, and I heard a mother weeping following the death of her young son from choking. I developed this device to save families from this heartbreak. LifeVac saves lives, and we are here to educate others on how to protect their loved ones."

A peer review of LifeVac was recently accepted to the International Journal of Clinical Skills. Dalia Moradi Saperstein authored the contribution, titled "Successful Use of a Novel device called the LifeVac to Resuscitate a Choking Victim?Worldwide Results".

About LifeVac

LifeVac is a non-powered, non-invasive, single patient airway clearance device developed for resuscitating a victim with an airway obstruction. The vision of LifeVac came to Arthur Lih, founder and CEO of LifeVac, after he heard of a woman in a hospital weeping following the death of her young son. The child died after a grape had become lodged in his windpipe and the Heimlich Maneuver did not work. Once Lih heard the story, he set out to invent an apparatus that could clear an airway. LifeVac is FDA registered and is also registered with MHRA and Health Canada. No prescription is required.
