Youngsters and Seniors Helping One Another: The Scooters Are Back!

SAINT-LAURENT, QC, July 9, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - For the second year in a row, 55-year-olds and over in Saint-Laurent will be able to take advantage of a free scooter service, thanks to the partnership with Un vélo une ville, a charitable organization.

Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa; Jacques Cohen, Borough Councillor for the Côte-de-Liesse district; Aref Salem, City Councillor for the Norman-McLaren district and his two daughters; Francesco Miele, City Councillor for the Côte-de-Liesse district; and two students participating in the initiative. The mission of Un vélo une ville is to break the isolation of seniors, while promoting academic success, as the scooters are driven by young people from the cities or municipalities served by this organization, enabling them to obtain paid summer employment and a student grant at the end of their work period.

"We are pleased to be taking part again in this wonderful initiative that brings generations together and promotes sustainable and environmentally-friendly transportation. It is perfectly in keeping with our desire to create and maintain an inclusive community for one and all in Saint-Laurent. This program is also in line with three of the six local plans adopted in August 2017: the Plan d'action intégrée en développement social (Integrated social development action plan), the Plan local de déplacements (Local mobility plan) and the Plan local de développement durable (Local sustainable development plan)," stated Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa.

Since June 23rd and until August 26th, this free scooter ride service of maximum one hour, is available 7 days a week as follows:
