Pascale Fournier appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation

MONTRÉAL, July 9, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation announces the appointment of Pascale Fournier, Ad.E., as President and Chief Executive Officer. Succeeding Morris Rosenberg, her five year mandate begins on July 9th, 2018.

Pascale Fournier possesses all of the attributes and qualities to lead the Foundation in the pursuit of its mission, which is to support research in the humanities and social sciences. A lawyer by trade and full professor, she has taught Rights and Freedoms, Comparative Family Law and Critical Approaches to Law at the University of Ottawa, and was the Research Chair on Legal Pluralism and Comparative Law. Demonstrating a great sense of openness to the world, Pascale Fournier has taught from Haiti to Costa Rica to Iran. In 2008, she also served as an expert consultant to the United Nations Development Program on the issue of the right to equality of Muslim women in Tunisia, Egypt, Malaysia and Nigeria. Her work has focused on the rights of families and women in precarious situations, particularly in cultural and religious contexts.

"Her charisma, leadership, sensitivity and social, logical and practical intelligence make Pascale the right person to take the reins of the Foundation," said Morris Rosenberg, outgoing president and CEO of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. "As an alumna of our first-ever cohort, she has a unique understanding of the realities our fellows, laureates and mentors face, and will be able to invigorate the activities and orientations of the Foundation."

Eager to communicate and interact with the public, Pascale Fournier begins her mandate at the Foundation focusing on communities and prioritizing fruitful dialogue and reflection. The Foundation will engage in an extensive public consultation process across the country to exchange with its communities, question the practices in place and collectively reflect on its vision for the future. Discussions will focus on two major areas of reflection: inclusive excellence and responsible leadership.

"I feel humbled to be able to contribute to the development of an incredibly stimulating and creative community, even more so because I benefited from the Foundation's generous support during my doctoral studies, a support that has deeply impacted the person I am today," said Pascale Fournier, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. "The Foundation is like a valiant sailboat, fearless of daunting seas, able to transcend the limits of possible and sail towards unknown lands. Imagination and courage are the anchors of this process, which naturally brings leaders to rethink the social contract that unites us all. It is an honour for me to participate in this salutary transformation."
