CITGO Awards Scholarships to McNeese State University Engineering and Business Students & SOWELA Technical Students

SULPHUR, La., July 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- CITGO Petroleum Corporation today announced that it has awarded scholarships to deserving engineering and business students at McNeese State University (MSU) and local high school graduates entering SOWELA Technical College. The scholarships are in coordination with several other CITGO scholarship awards this year and the CITGO science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Talent Pipeline program.

The MSU Engineering scholarship recipients each received a CITGO-sponsored scholarship towards their college education ? a share of $10,000 in scholarship funds was awarded to the mechanical and chemical engineering disciplines at MSU ($5,000 per discipline).

The MSU Business scholarship recipients each received a CITGO scholarship towards their college education ? a share of $4,750 in scholarship funds was awarded to the business disciplines at MSU.

CITGO awarded a total of $25,000 to four students pursuing higher education in STEM-related programs at SOWELA Technical College.

Jerry Dunn, CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex Vice President and General Manager, said the students in our community have worked hard to earn scholarships in engineering, business and technical fields. "This year's scholarship recipients have proven their commitment to their academic careers by excelling in academic performance and their chosen degree programs. We hope that the CITGO scholarships will assist the students in achieving success in their academic and career endeavors," Dunn said.

The CITGO Lake Charles Refinery is proactive in supporting education at all levels throughout Calcasieu Parish. The CITGO scholarships are one more example of how CITGO supports education in the communities where the company operates.
