MediaSmarts welcomes new Executive Director Kathryn Ann Hill

OTTAWA, July 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MediaSmarts, Canada's centre for digital and media literacy, is excited to announce Kathryn Ann Hill as its next Executive Director. She replaces Cathy Wing and Jane Tallim, who are retiring from their roles as co-executive directors after more than 25 years of service to the organization.

Ms. Hill is a visionary not-for-profit leader, having most recently served as Executive Director at Family Services Ottawa, and previously holding leadership roles at HealthPartners/PartenaireSanté and United Way of Canada. She has extensive experience in fostering innovation, board governance, organizational development and social enterprise.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kathryn on board at this important juncture in our organization's history," says MediaSmarts' Chair Suzanne Morin. "Cathy and Jane have been with MediaSmarts since the beginning, so these are very large shoes to fill, but we are confident Kathryn is the perfect choice to continue the excellent work that has made MediaSmarts the leading media and digital literacy organization in Canada."

"I am honoured to have been selected to succeed Cathy and Jane, and look forward to continuing to build on the legacy they have created along with the Board, staff and many contributors," said Ms. Hill. "MediaSmarts enjoys a reputation of excellence in research and the development of unique tools and resources, with a mandate that is more important than ever in our increasingly networked world. I am thrilled to be a part of the future of this dynamic and important organization."

MediaSmarts has been providing leadership in advancing digital and media literacy in Canadian schools, homes and communities for over 20 years. It conducts research on media-related public policy issues and develops evidence-based educational resources for parents, teachers and youth.
