Supporting Canadian creative-export presenters at the National Rural Touring Forum New Directions Showcase in Worcester, United Kingdom, through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund

The Government of Canada provides funding in support of the Atlantic Presenters Association

CHARLOTTETOWN, June 26, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced that the Atlantic Presenters Association Inc. is receiving $25,000 for the participation of a delegation of Canadian presenters at the National Rural Touring Forum New Directions Showcase in Worcester, United Kingdom, through the Creative Export Envelope of the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (CAPF). The Creative Export Envelope provides supplemental support to existing CAPF recipients that contribute to a favorable environment for Canadian cultural export by promoting Canadian artists to international markets.

This amount is added to the $385,566 that the Atlantic Presenters Association receives from the Government of Canada for its programming and services in 2017?20.

In keeping with the Government of Canada's Creative Export Strategy, the CAPF offered additional support in 2017?18 for the participation of international presenters at Canadian arts festivals and events and Canadian arts presenters at international events. Numerous Canadian festivals and arts events have become destinations for delegations of international presenters, providing springboards for launching the international careers of Canadian performers and opening up opportunities for future collaborations.

Through the CAPF, Canadians have access to a variety of professional artistic experiences in their communities. The fund provides financial assistance to organizations that present professional arts festivals or performing arts seasons and to organizations that offer support to arts presenters.

Each year, the CAPF supports approximately 650 professional arts festivals, performing arts seasons and other activities related to arts presentation in more than 250 cities and communities across Canada.

Quotes

"Investing in Canada's creative exports is important to the Government of Canada. These investments will help build the international careers of Canadian performers, open new markets and opportunities for Canada's artists and create well-paying jobs for people in our thriving arts and cultural industries."

?The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage

"We are grateful for the Creative Export funding we received through Canadian Heritage. It allows Atlantic Presenters Association Inc. to provide specific professional development to a key group of presenters in the region. Through this program, we are able to offer a meaningful opportunity to presenters from smaller, more rural communities across Atlantic Canada, a segment of the sector that doesn't often have access to international artists, particularly artists that are focused on touring rural venues."

?Angela Campbell, President, Atlantic Presenters Association Inc.

Quick Facts

The Creative Export Envelope of the Canada Arts Presentation Fund allowed the program to make strategic investments for international presenters to participate in Canadian festivals and performing arts events in order to expose them to Canada's artists. The funding will also support the reciprocal participation of Canadian arts presenters at international events.

Delegations of international presenters participating at Canadian festivals or delegations of Canadian arts presenters attending international arts events facilitating peer-to-peer contact were eligible.

Continued investments in arts and culture benefits economic growth, as the cultural sector represents more than 3.5 percent of jobs in Canada and employs more than 652,000 Canadians.
