Ameritech Financial Says Student Debt Doesn't Need to Stop Borrowers From Getting a Pet

ROHNERT PARK, Calif., June 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In the face of student debt, it can seem daunting or even impossible to afford the cost of an animal companion. With the total average cost of a pet being around $800 per year it is easy for a borrower to believe that it is impossible to handle both the responsibility of a pet and the cost of their repayment. However, by reducing the amount that someone is required to repay per month, borrowers might be able to cut down their monthly expenses enough to afford the pets that they want in their life. Ameritech Financial, a document preparation company, may be able to assist future pet owners to apply for federal programs designed to reduce the monthly cost of their student loans. The company helps borrowers fill out the necessary paperwork for those federal plans which may give such borrowers the time and money to care for a new companion.

"Pets can bring their owners love, responsibility, companionship, and happiness," said Tom Knickerbocker, Executive Vice President of Ameritech Financial. "If certain borrowers want a pet to be a part of their life and student loans are preventing that life, then we may be able to help them as they apply to get on the right plan to afford their student loans, allowing them to get the pet that they want."

Making the choice to start a life with a new pet is an expensive decision, but Ameritech Financial may be able to assist by helping borrowers apply for an income-driven repayment plan (IDR). With this plan, a borrower may only have to pay a small portion of their discretionary income each month and may even gain debt forgiveness in 20 to 25 years. Under such a plan less can be spent on the borrower's debt each month and more can be spent on the new family member.

"Ameritech Financial is there to help individuals apply for federal student loan repayment programs. Specifically, we offer our services to those seeking help in applying for income-driven repayment programs to help make sure their applications are completed properly," said Knickerbocker.
