TORONTO, June 23, 2018 /CNW/ - The Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) is celebrating Pride with style and professionalism, placing transit shelter ads featuring the faces of its LGBTQ+ members in four cities.

"Ontario nurses are committed to every person's right to dignity and equal treatment, in their workplaces and everywhere," says Vicki McKenna, RN, ONA Provincial President.

"We've made meaningful progress towards equality for LGBTQ+ patients and nurses ? in health care facilities, in our Union and throughout our communities ? since RNs formed ONA 45 years ago," she adds. "There's still much work to be done and I couldn't be more proud of our Union and our members who are so publicly standing up for LGBTQ+ rights."

ONA's "RN Pride" ads can be seen on Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus and streetcar shelters and Thunder Bay Transit bus shelters now until the end of June. They will be placed in London, Ontario as of July 16 and in Ottawa starting August 13.

ONA members will be participating in the 38th annual Toronto Pride Parade this weekend and in Pride festivities across the province this summer.

ONA is the union representing more than 65,000 RNs and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
