The Governor General to Undertake an Official Visit to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia
OTTAWA, June 21, 2018 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will undertake an official visit to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia from June 25 to 27, 2018. She will make stops in Charlottetown, Halifax and Lunenburg.
During this visit, the Governor General will meet with provincial officials and community members. This visit will also provide Her Excellency with an opportunity to discover Prince Edward Island's innovative bioscience practices and Nova Scotia's thriving marine industries.
Below is Her Excellency's detailed itinerary. Times are indicated in Atlantic Daylight Time (UTC - 03:00).

Monday, June 25

Official Welcoming Ceremony
Upon arrival at Government House, the Governor General will be officially welcomed by
Her Honour the Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, by the Honourable H. Wade MacLauchlan, Premier of Prince Edward Island, and by Mr. Duncan McIntosh. She will receive military honours, including a 100-person guard of honour, the "Viceregal Salute" and a 21-gun salute from the 5th Canadian Division and the National Band of the Naval Reserve. Afterwards, Her Excellency will enter Government House where she will sign the guest book.

Visit to the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI)
Upon arrival, Her Excellency will tour the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering where she will learn about some of the innovative projects being developed by UPEI faculty, staff and student teams. Afterwards, she will proceed to the UPEI Climate Lab in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre to learn about CLIVE (Coastal Impacts Visualization Environment).

Meeting with Bluenose II Crew
Her Excellency will board the Bluenose II to meet the crew. She will also witness the crew's skill and teamwork first-hand as they sail around the bay.
Bluenose II was built in 1963 and is a replica of the original schooner, which was a celebrated racing ship and fishing vessel. Each year, Bluenose II hires 12 youth to be deckhands. For more information, visit bluenose.novascotia.ca/.

Visit to 12 Wing Shearwater
Upon arrival at 12 Wing Shearwater, the Governor General will be greeted by Colonel Sid Connor, 12 Wing Commanding Officer. Together, they will tour the Shearwater Aviation Museum where she will learn about the airfield's rich history, as 12 Wing prepares to celebrate 100 years of maritime aviation in Canada. Afterwards, Her Excellency will meet with instructors and students at 406 Squadron to learn about the skills required to operate and maintain the state-of-art CH-148 Cyclone, the most advanced maritime helicopter the Royal Canadian Air Force has ever employed. The visit will conclude with Her Excellency participating in a familiarization flight on board the Cyclone.

Visit with Canadian Coast Guard Staff and Cadets
The Governor General will embark on a Canadian Coast Guard vessel to meet with staff and officer cadets. On board, Her Excellency will be given a tour of the vessel where she will learn about search and rescue operations.
