Bullfrog Power congratulates East Coast Credit Union on national sustainability award

DARTMOUTH, NS, June 19, 2018 /CNW/ - Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, congratulates East Coast Credit Union on being awarded the Canadian Credit Union Association's Social Responsibility Award for its commitment to building stronger communities through sustainability practices. The organization received the award for its dedication to making sustainability a major part of its business, and substantially reducing its environmental footprint by supporting the development of renewable energy in Canada.

In January 2017, East Coast Credit Union partnered with Bullfrog Power to make the largest green energy commitment of any credit union in Atlantic Canada by bullfrogpowering its 20 branches and 30 ATMs across Nova Scotia with 100 per cent clean, renewable electricity. By supporting green energy with Bullfrog Power, East Coast Credit Union is reducing its environmental footprint and supporting the development of community-based renewable energy projects in the Maritimes and across Canada.

In Nova Scotia, Bullfrog Power has helped to fund rooftop solar projects on the Hope Blooms community greenhouse and the Deanery Project, both of which educate youth on the benefits of renewable energy.

Bullfrog Power, with the support of its customers such as East Coast Credit Union, is also helping to support wind projects in the region. Bullfrog, developer Minas Energy, and facility owner Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA) helped to launch Phase two of the Ellershouse Wind Farm in June 2017. AREA, a partnership between the Towns of Antigonish, Berwick and Mahone Bay in Nova Scotia, was created by the towns to reduce energy costs, expand green mandates and develop new revenue streams for the municipalities. The project is the first wind development in Nova Scotia to be funded and built independently of the local power authority or any provincial government incentive program.

"We're pleased that East Coast Credit Union is this year's recipient of the Canadian Credit Union Association's Social Responsibility Award," says Ron Seftel, Chief Executive Officer, Bullfrog Power. "East Coast Credit Union continues to demonstrate environmental leadership by choosing renewable energy for its branches and ATMs, and helping to support and grow community-based green energy projects in the Maritimes."

"We hope that through our actions, other businesses will be encouraged to consider similar investments and together, Canadian businesses will improve our country's collective environmental future," says Ken Shea, President and CEO, East Coast Credit Union. "We want to lead by example. There is a cost to buying sustainable energy but the environmental impact of not using sustainable energy is much greater."
