Toyota of Hattiesburg collects food donations for local college food drive

HATTIESBURG, Miss., June 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Money and budgets can get tight for college students who are forced to make sacrifices and cannot always afford good, healthy food. Pearl River Community College has taken notice of this shortcoming and is working to establish an on-campus food pantry and marketplace that will be called The Market. To help community college students, Toyota of Hattiesburg is collecting food donations for the Pearl River Community College food drive at the dealership.

Many studies have shown that college students across the country face "food insecurity" issues that can be mitigated by an on-campus marketplace. To start this project, Pearl River Community College received a $500 initial donation from the Poplarville Rotary Club that will help stock the shelves at the campus pantry. The college will be accepting more non-perishable food donations as of July 1, which can be dropped off in the office of public relations.

As a business in the Pine Belt community, Toyota of Hattiesburg is helping Pearl River Community College with The Market by collecting food donations at the dealership. The dealership will be collecting non-perishable, food donations in the dealership showroom, which will be placed in the bed of a Toyota pickup truck and donated to the college at a later date.

Pine Belt-area residents who would like to make a donation to the Pearl River Community College pantry can learn more about when, where and how Toyota of Hattiesburg stays involved in the community by visiting the dealership website, www.toyotahattiesburg.com. Residents who would like to speak with a dealership representative directly can call 601-544-9630.
