Statement by the Prime Minister on the new Premier of Nunavut
OTTAWA, June 15, 2018 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the new Premier of Nunavut:
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Joe Savikataaq, who was chosen as the new territorial Premier by Members of the Nunavut Legislative Assembly.
"Nunavut has one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. Respect, inclusion, and the full participation of the people of Nunavut is essential to the territory's ? and Canada's ? ongoing progress and prosperity.
"The Government of Canada will continue to work with Indigenous, territorial, and provincial partners to co-develop a new Arctic Policy Framework that reflects the needs and priorities of the North.
"I look forward to working with Premier Savikataaq to improve the well-being of Indigenous Peoples, build more sustainable and diversified economies in the region, and ensure all residents of the territory can benefit from healthy, vibrant communities."
