Comme un air d'été - Lachine Launches its Summer Cultural Season
MONTRÉAL, June 14, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - It was in the presence of various organizations, partners, residents and artists that Comme un air d'été, the arrondissement de Lachine's summer cultural program, was just launched. Tens of thousands of visitors will be attending these summer events.
"Lachine stands out for its cultural tradition of over ten years of experimental theatre festivals along the riverbanks, over 40 years of internationally-renowned classical music concert festivals, more than 70 years of exhibitions at a national heritage site and over 100 years of popular patriotic festivities. Lachine is a small borough that loves culture and is happy to be able to make it available and accessible to one and all. We invite you to discover the reinvented wealth of culture, the magic of summer nights to the sounds of the best world music. A wide variety of shows in captivating locations are in store for you all," emphasized Mayor Maja Vodanovic.
Tremendous start to the cultural program
On June 24, music lovers will be delighted to celebrate with the popular Alex Nevsky, preceded by great festival regulars, the Mordicus rock group. This evening featuring Québec music will get under way in Parc Saint-Louis at 8 p.m., on the Quai de la 34e Avenue. A little earlier, 1 p.m. ? 5 p.m., at Parc de la Marina d'escale, the atmosphere will be a festive one for families and will be highlighted by Arthur L'aventurier's show at 3 p.m. On July 1, at 7:30 p.m., Parc de la Marina d'Escale will be hosting a circus arts show with Gazby perd la boule. Then it will vibrate to the lively sounds of Stefie Shock and will be the ideal place to admire the fireworks display on the shores of Lac Saint-Louis. These shows are offered in cooperation with the Gouvernement du Québec and the Mouvement national des Québécoises et Québécois for the Fête nationale du Québec (the Québec holiday) and with Heritage Canada for Canada Day.
Two world-class festivals
Long-standing Borough partners will each present their cultural event renowned for the performances of local and international artists. First of all, June 30 ? July 15, Les Concerts Lachine will be offering the 41st edition of the Festival de musique classique de Lachine. Preceded by a talk with artistic director Richard Turp, the concerts will take place at l'Entrepôt, at Saints-Anges church and, for the first time, in the chapel at La Maison mère des Soeurs de Sainte-Anne. Charles Richard-Hamelin, the Orchestre de la Francophonie and Quartom are among the event's headliners.
To bring summer to a beautiful close, the artists of the Festival de théâtre de rue de Lachine?a festival unlike any other in North America?will be performing in the Borough's public spaces August 23-25. With Éclats Macadam as the theme, the Festival will showcase some sixty shows, including Amor by the French company Bilbobasso?a confrontation between Argentine tango and the art of fire?as well as Espace forain's Pique-Nique, featuring a couple and their car. Three nights of pure audacity and fantasy!
World music, family festivities and museums
The discovery of new rhythms is also part of the cultural program in Lachine, with Musique du monde (world music) shows every second Wednesday of the summer at 7:30 p.m., in Parc de la Marina d'escale. Until September 30, budding pianists will have the chance to practise on the public piano installed on rue Notre-Dame near 11e Avenue. Also, the Fêtes de Lachine are a joy for all generations with their Québec-style shows, August 23-26, in various parts of the Borough.
Starting June 16, the Musée de Lachine will be presenting the temporary exhibition Incursion dans le studio d'art : l'apprentissage du dessin d'hier à aujourd'hui, which features drawings of today and yesteryear by such artists as Soeur Marie-Hélène-de-la-Croix, s.s.a., Armand Vaillancourt, Jean Paul Riopelle and Betty Goodwin. Cyclists and trekkers will also be pleased to find sculptures created by renowned artists at the Musée plein air de Lachine on the shores of Lac Saint-Louis and in Parc René-Lévesque.
The summer cultural program is also for children!
Families will be well looked after by the cultural program, as well, with the presentation of Les Marionnettes du dimanche, Québec puppet shows that will take place at 11 a.m. every second Sunday in July and August at Parc de la Marina d'escale. In addition, outdoor movies will be shown in the Borough's parks on Thursdays after dark, around 8:30 p.m. Théâtre La roulotte will also make a stop at Parc de la Marina d'escale on Wednesday, August 15 , at 7:30 p.m., with Astéroïde B612, an adaptation (in French) of The Little Prince by Antoine St-Exupéry. Lachine's libraries are also hosting wonderful children's events this summer with a rich program both within their walls and in the parks.
