Statement - Minister Carolyn Bennett Welcomes the Final Report of the Interim Board of Directors for the National Council for Reconciliation

OTTAWA, June 14, 2018 /CNW/ - The Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, Carolyn Bennett, issued the following statement today:

"I was truly grateful to receive the Interim Board's final report on Call to Action 53 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which calls for the establishment of a National Council for Reconciliation, and Call to Action 54, for the provision of multi-year funding for the National Council and the endowment of a National Reconciliation Trust.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I want to thank Grand Chief Wilton Littlechild, Max FineDay, Mike DeGagné, Clint Davis, Edith Cloutier and Jean Teillet for their dedication and hard work as the Interim Board members.

When I appointed them this past December, I knew they would provide me with meaningful recommendations on how best to address these Calls to Action. They went above and beyond to engage with Indigenous people and stakeholders across Canada to make sure we address these Calls to Action in the correct and most inclusive way.

I look forward to reading and giving careful consideration to their recommendations, as we continue to make progress on implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and work to include all Canadians ?in the journey of reconciliation."
