Education International media specialist appointed CTF Director of Communications

OTTAWA, June 14, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) is pleased to announce Andrew King as the federation's new Director of Communications starting Sept. 5, 2018.

Media has been at the centre of King's entire career. Born and raised in Victoria, B.C., he obtained a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from Montréal's Concordia University. King worked in Vancouver's film and television industry prior to his time as a journalist with CTV Montreal.

King's last eight years have been largely spent living in France and Belgium, where he has served in various communications roles. Most recently, he worked for four years as the Media and Communications Coordinator for Education International, a global union federation of education employees in 400 organizations, including the CTF. King, being someone who never tires of learning, also completed an executive business management program at Brussels' Solvay Business School.

"We are incredibly honoured to welcome Andrew onto the CTF team," said CTF President H. Mark Ramsankar. "His vast range of experience in Canada and abroad will provide excellent insight and a unique perspective into CTF Communications. He brings with him a wealth of understanding about the importance of public education which, in combination with his media experience, makes him a great fit for the role and organization."

King and current CTF Director of Communications, Francine Filion, will work collaboratively in September, prior to Filion's retirement Oct. 1, 2018.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Francine for her many years of active involvement and steadfast leadership with the CTF," said Ramsankar. "She will be dearly missed and we wish her the best in retirement. With that said, we look forward to having Andrew join the CTF family."

King is excited to return to Canada and share his experience, enthusiasm, and passion for work and life with his new colleagues. He is accompanied by his wife Fiona, baby daughter Margot, and cat Jackie Kennedy.

Founded in 1920, the CTF is a non-profit organization and a national alliance of provincial and territorial Member organizations that represent over 238,000 teachers across Canada. @CanTeachersFed and @EnseigneCanada
