Canada's dirty little secret: #BeCrueltyFree video exposes animal testing for cosmetics.

TORONTO, June 13, 2018 /CNW/ - A new video exposes Canada's dirty little secret - animal testing for cosmetics is still legal in Canada and is still done in Canada.  The video urges immediate political action by the federal government to ban the outdated and cruel practices.  The video begins:  "Animal testing for cosmetics.  It's still happening here.  It's well hidden.  But it is still happening."

"Bill S-214, the Cruelty Free Cosmetic Act, is in the final stages of Third Reading in the Senate and will proceed to Parliament for passage," said Liz White, Director, Animal Alliance of Canada, a #BeCrueltyFree partner.  "The government should take this bill and expedite its passage.  The Bill is similar to the European Union legislation and will not only end the cruel and obsolete practice of cosmetic animal testing in Canada, but it will ensure that Canada does not become a safe harbour for newly animal-tested beauty products and ingredients that are being outlawed by an ever-growing number of countries."

"We released the video to remind Canadians that cruel animal testing for cosmetics is still legal in Canada," said Troy Seidle, Vice President, Research and Toxicology, Humane Society International and #BeCrueltyFree partner.  "I think people assumed that the problem doesn't exist or has gone away.  The reality is the opposite.  It is shocking to people to find out that cosmetic animal testing is still legal in Canada."

"We have had legislation pending for a number of years," Seidle continued.  It is time for our political leaders to get behind the Bill and join the world-wide movement to end cosmetic testing forever."
