Urban Promenades: A Vision for Vieux Saint-Laurent!

SAINT-LAURENT, QC, June 6, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - At the Saint-Laurent Council meeting on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, Saint-Laurent's Administration tabled a master plan?the Plan directeur des promenades urbaines?to revitalize the Vieux Saint-Laurent sector, the heart of the Borough's history. The first phase of a long-term vision of promenades linking Borough of Saint-Laurent territory to the City, the project consists of developing a network of green infrastructures combining biodiversity and urban life, through ecological routes connecting places of interest in the sector.

Three centres of interest identified for the sector in the Master Plan: commercial, artistic/cultural and green corridor. (CNW Group/Ville de Montréal - Arrondissement de Saint-Laurent)

"Focused on the future, Saint-Laurent is striving to imagine how to plan and build the city of tomorrow, while involving its residents more than ever. We are therefore very proud of this master plan, because it represents the outcome of numerous exchanges between Saint-Laurent's Administration and its residents, and in particular, a vast brainstorming effort in 2013. Residents will also be invited to participate in all future phases involved in carrying out this Plan. These urban promenades will enable us to better share public space, increase biodiversity and encourage active mobility, while highlighting our magnificent cultural and historical heritage," explained Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa.

The Plan proposes development intentions for three centres of interest identified in the sector: commercial, artistic/cultural and green corridor. In fact, two phases of this Plan have already been implemented: the development of a public square?Place Rodolphe-Rousseau?in 2017, as part of Montréal's 375th anniversary, and the redevelopment of rue Decelles, in the summer of 2018, as part of Ville de Montréal's Pedestrian and Shared Street Program.

In partnership with the other Borough and Ville de Montréal departments, Saint-Laurent's Direction de l'aménagement urbain et service aux entreprises will identify and prioritize projects among those proposed in the Plan, based on their technical feasibility and estimated costs. These projects will be integrated into either the 2018-2021 three-year capital investment program or any other possible financial option. The strategy and timing for implementation will depend on such factors yet to be specified.
