Rip currents: A Hazard in the Maritimes

WHAT: Free public presentation by the University of Windsor's Dean of Science Dr. Chris Houser.

WHY: Learn about the science and safety of rip currents. How to spot a rip and what you should do if caught in one. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can swiftly transport swimmers a significant distance off-shore.

WHO: Dr. Houser is a geomorphologist of coastal and aeolian environments. His current research includes working with officials in Costa Rica to prevent drowning deaths and improve beach safety by developing a better understanding of potentially hazardous rip currents.
