Minister MacAulay to promote agricultural trade in Texas

OTTAWA, May 30, 2018 /CNW/ - As negotiations on a modernized North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) continue, the Government of Canada is working hard to create new opportunities for producers and food processors on both sides of the border. The Government of Canada is committed to reaching $75 billion in annual agri-food exports by 2025.

Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Lawrence MacAulay, will be traveling to Texas for a two-day mission to promote agricultural trade and to participate in the annual World Meat Congress, the world's premier gathering of beef, pork, lamb and veal industry leaders, being held in Dallas.

Following his address at the World Meat Congress, Minister MacAulay will meet with his Argentinian counterpart, Minister of Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, to discuss trade opportunities. The Minister will also sit down with various U.S government officials in the Lone Star State, as well as industry representatives and the Texas Farm Bureau, to reinforce the importance of two-way trade between Canada and all U.S. states.

Agricultural trade between the U.S. and Canada reached $63 billion (CAD) in 2017.

Quote

"NAFTA is the world's largest trade partnership, and has brought prosperity to farmers and producers on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border as well as Mexico. I am looking forward to meeting with government and industry leaders while in Texas, to reinforce the benefits of strong economic trade links that support the growth of the middle class and strengthen our economies."
The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food
