Safari Club International Foundation's Hunter Legacy 100 Fund Invests in Conservation Visions' Wild Harvest InitiativeŽ

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland, May 22, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Conservation Visions is announcing a new partnership with Safari Club International Foundation's Hunter Legacy 100 Fund in support of its Wild Harvest InitiativeŽ. The Initiative is the first attempt to synthesize and evaluate the combined economic, social, and conservation benefits of recreational wild animal harvests in American and Canadian societies. It will deliver an evidence-based discussion of fish and wildlife use to the public, working within relevant social concerns for food quality, food security, and the mounting evidence of the importance of nature experiences to human well-being, also addressing a serious question facing North American policy institutions: If recreational hunting and angling were to end, what would be the consequences?

"Sustainable use has been and remains a crucial mechanism for wildlife conservation in Canada and the United States, but many people today question its value and relevance" said Shane Mahoney, Conservation Visions' CEO and originator of the Wild Harvest InitiativeŽ. "The Initiative will help explain the value of sustainable wild animal harvests to average citizens, not just in terms of wildlife conservation but also food security, human health and fitness, animal health and welfare, land management, the economy, and the environment. We are simply delighted that the Hunter Legacy 100 Fund has chosen to invest in this important work."

"The purpose of the Hunter Legacy 100 Fund is to generate funds in support of SCI Foundation's international conservation, outdoor education, and humanitarian efforts" said Safari Club International Foundation's Conservation and Research Program Director, Joe Goergen. "The Wild Harvest InitiativeŽ will contribute to each component of this mission. In fact, we believe the Initiative has the potential to change conversations and attitudes about sustainable natural harvests in modern North American society and in other parts of the world for the better and we are excited to join this partnership alliance."
