Federal government strengthening cross-border relationships with Silicon Valley to grow Canadian economy
OTTAWA, May 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to helping Canadian businesses build relationships with partners at home and abroad, and to highlighting the advantages of working and investing in Canada.
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, has concluded a two-day visit to Silicon Valley, in California, where he promoted Canada's growing leadership in artificial intelligence, the strength of Canada's innovation ecosystem and how the government is working to attract more investments into the economy to create well-paying, middle class jobs for Canadians.
Minister Bains met with businesses in Silicon Valley to promote several components of the Innovation and Skills Plans, including the Innovation Superclusters Initiative, the Global Skills Strategy and the Economic Strategy Tables. He also participated in a roundtable with women in technology, to discuss the key factors needed to create a supportive environment for women entrepreneurs. The Minister attended a reception hosted by C100, a non-profit association of Canadian entrepreneurs, executives and venture capital investors in San Francisco that supports the acceleration of Canada's innovation economy in a number of sectors, including artificial intelligence.
Through the Innovation and Skills Plan, the federal government is providing simpler, more efficient and better coordinated support to Canadian entrepreneurs and companies and to international players looking to invest in Canada.
