PARAMUS, N.J., May 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- New Jersey looks to create a more patient-friendly medical marijuana culture. Learn more about New Jersey's proposed regulatory changes and more at CWCBExpo's New Jersey marijuana business conference.
New Jersey's Medical Marijuana Program plans to expand patient access to medical marijuana and reduce fees associated with medical marijuana for patients and caregivers.
The New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program currently assists over 18,000 patients, and more than 500 physicians and nearly 900 caregivers participate in the program.
Many of the proposed changes and recommendations were brought about by Executive Order 6?an order which prompted a review of the state's Medical Marijuana Program.
Some of the recommendations were slated to take effect immediately while others require additional debate and approval.
Changes to the New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program include:
· Allowing physicians to prescribe medical marijuana for a broader range of illnesses
· Reducing expenses associated with medical marijuana
· Permitting dispensary satellite locations
Anxiety, migraines, Tourette's Syndrome, and chronic pain related to musculoskeletal disorders and visceral pain can now be treated with medical marijuana.
Going forward, biennial patient registration will be $100 cheaper, and veterans and seniors will receive a $20 registration discount.
In addition, the one-caregiver limit per patient rule is being lifted and physicians will no longer have to list themselves on the state's public registry?if they meet prescribing requirements, they are able to prescribe the product to treat allowable illnesses.
The New Jersey state governor plans to propose legislative changes. If his proposed changes are approved, medical marijuana patients will have access to edibles. They will also be able to obtain more product each month and hospice patients will be able to acquire an unlimited supply of medical marijuana. Furthermore, New Jersey's original Alternate Treatment Centers will no longer have to operate as non-profit institutions.
Those looking to open an Alternate Treatment Center in New Jersey can expect a faster permitting process, and eventually, potentially, the ability to specialize.
In the future, New Jersey hopes to make their medical marijuana program even more patient friendly with:
· Home delivery services for medical marijuana patients
· A provider education program
· Faster permitting processes
