HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco Visits Canada To Mark a Decade of Diplomatic Relations


WASHINGTON, May 7, 2018 /CNW/ -- To mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between Monaco and Canada, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II will travel today to the Canadian capital for the first formal meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The leaders will meet in the Prime Minister's Parliamentary offices in Ottawa to discuss climate change issues and its adverse effects in the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as preservation of the oceans and conservation of marine life.

Included in the official delegation are H.E. Bernard Fautrier, Vice President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, H.E. Maguy Maccario Doyle, Ambassador of Monaco to Canada and the United States, and Dr. Diane Vachon, Honorary Consul of Monaco in Montreal and President of the Canadian branch of the Prince Albert II Foundation. Also, present will be H.E. Isabelle Hudon, Canada's Ambassador to France and Monaco, Mr. John Hannaford, Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor. Following the bilateral meeting, the Honorable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, will host Prince Albert, the Monegasque delegation, and Project Manager for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Raphaël Cuvelier, to discuss ocean preservation and marine pollution.

The day will continue with a guided visit of "Death in the Ice ? The Mystery of the Franklin Expedition" at the Canadian Museum of History followed by courtesy calls to the President of the Senate, the Honorable George Furey, and the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honorable Geoff Regan. In the evening, the Princely delegation will be hosted by the Right Honorable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, and will be joined by guests including Mr. Sylvain Laporte, President of the Canadian Space Agency, Ms. Tricia Smith, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, and Ms. Stefanie Beck, Assistant Deputy Minister, Europe, Circumpolar Affairs, Middle East and Maghreb at Global Affairs Canada.

The Prince will also travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to the home to the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) at Dalhousie University to meet with Dalhousie President Dr. Richard Florizone, and Vice President, Dr. Alice Aiken. He will visit the Steel Ocean Science Building for a session on the Institute and its role in ocean research, which is a key priority of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (pa2f.org). The Prince and Minister LeBlanc will also participate in an open debate on the theme "An Ocean of Opportunity" followed by a Q&A session with Dalhousie students.
