As the Warm Weather Returns, Air Health Check Helps Canadians Stay Healthy Outdoors

Download the free Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) Canada App to receive alerts about rising air pollution levels?then plan your activities and protect your health!

TORONTO, April 25, 2018 /CNW/ - Scout Environmental, PharmaChoice, and Running Room are pleased to announce the return of Air Health Check: a national campaign designed to help Canadians stay informed about outdoor air quality, protect their health, and lead more active lifestyles.

The program officially kicks off on Thursday, May 3rd?coinciding with major marathon expos happening in Toronto, Mississauga, and Vancouver over that weekend. Air Health Check's primary goal is to teach people how to consult the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI)?a numbered scale that lets users know when outdoor air pollution levels are highest?to better understand the connection between air pollution levels and their personal health and wellbeing.

Air Health Check is especially relevant as temperatures rise, as well as for specific populations who experience more severe symptoms of poor air quality during the spring and summer months. These more vulnerable groups include young children, seniors, people who work or exercise outdoors, and people with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions and diabetes.

While outlining the most common symptoms of poor air quality?including coughing and wheezing, trouble breathing, and irritated noses, throats, and eyes?Air Health Check also offers tips for users to stay as healthy as possible while enjoying the spring and summer weather.

One of the best ways to stay informed is to download the AQHI Canada app. This free tool provides hourly readings and local forecasts for all major communities across the country. Available for Android and iOS devices, the app brings you AQHI readings from your nearest station and features push notification alerts based on the AQHI levels and regions you choose.

Start checking the AQHI today?and download the AQHI Canada app for free?at AirHealthCheck.ca!

Air Health Check is brought to you by Scout Environmental, Running Room, and PharmaChoice, with funding from the Government of Canada.
