The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) meeting in Windsor, Ontario, April 22 - April 27, 2018
OTTAWA, April 19, 2018 /CNW/ - The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) meets twice a year to review the status of wildlife species that have been identified as potentially being at risk of extinction from Canada, as they are mandated to do under the federal Species at Risk Act (SARA).
The next meeting will take place in Windsor, Ontario, from April 22nd to April 27, 2018. COSEWIC will determine the status of 45 Canadian wildlife species. Among these 45 wildlife species are many found in southern Ontario ? several populations of lungless salamander, the Painted Turtle, the Gray Ratsnake (one of Canada's largest snakes), a sun moth, and several flowering plants. The committee will also reconsider the status of the currently endangered Basking Shark Pacific population and the currently threatened Common Nighthawk.
Following the meeting, a press release will be issued that summarizes the results of the discussion and that highlights ongoing Canadian conservation challenges and successful conservation actions.
