CANCELLATION - Media Advisory - Ministers Carr, McKenna Attend Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit

NEW YORK, April 6, 2018 /CNW/ - Canada's Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Catherine McKenna, and Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Jim Carr, will travel to New York next week for the 2018 Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit (BNEF).

Minister Carr will participate in a moderated discussion on North America's energy future with U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. Minister McKenna, her U.K. counterpart Minister Claire Perry and Michael Bloomberg, the UN Special Envoy for Climate Action, will also be together on stage to talk about international efforts to phase out coal and support clean economic growth.

Both ministers will be present for the announcement of the finalists for the $20-million NRG COSIA Carbon XPrize, which seeks to inspire bright minds to develop breakthrough technological solutions to reduce carbon pollution and harness the economic opportunities they present.

Minister McKenna will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with key partners to advance international efforts to tackle climate change. Minister Carr will promote Canada's commitment to advancing the role of women in energy, by moderating a panel on women in energy, co-hosted by New York University and Columbia University.
