Official opening of Caplan's new multi-purpose hall

The governments of Quebec and Canada are proud to have contributed to the refitting and expansion of Caplan's multi-purpose hall. The renovated infrastructure makes it possible to address residents' municipal service needs more effectively.

At the official opening of the building, Pierre Moreau, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Minister responsible for the Plan Nord and Minister responsible for the Gaspésie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine region, will be announcing a financial contribution of more than $1.9 million from the Government of Quebec for this project. The municipality provided the remaining funding, for a total government-municipal investment of over $3 million.

The Government of Canada also awarded $500,000 in financial support, in the form of a non-repayable contribution. The funding was granted by Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150).

Highlights:

• Built over 60 years ago, the multi-purpose hall was showing signs of deterioration. In addition to being refurbished and brought up to standard, the hall was expanded to include rooms accessible to residents and organizations.
• The $1,970,995 investment by the Government of Quebec was provided through the Programme d'infrastructures Québec-Municipalités (PIQM) ? volet Réfection et construction des infrastructures municipales (RECIM) [website in French only], which helps municipalities carry out municipal infrastructure construction, retrofitting, rehabilitation, conversion or upgrading projects to ensure the sustainability of citizen services.
• The Plan québécois des infrastructures 2018-2028 (website in French only) provides for investments of more than $7 billion in municipal infrastructure and is administered by the ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Occupation du territoire. When combined with contributions from the Government of Canada and municipalities, this means $15 billion will be invested in municipal infrastructure in Quebec over this period.
• Since its creation in 2015, the CIP150 has invested almost $61 million for over 470 projects supporting the vitality of Quebec communities.
• CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
