SAE International WCX World Congress Will Feature Several Discussions on Vehicle Emissions and Regulations

DETROIT, April 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Recently, the EPA announced it will begin easing vehicle-emissions standards. SAE International's WCX World Congress Experience will feature a full lineup of technical presentations and discussions about how such rollbacks will shape the future of powertrain development strategies; how such rollbacks are at odds with California's emissions standards; along with technical discussions on such technologies as advanced emissions measurement and testing.

SAE International's WCX World Congress Experience will be held April 10-12 at Cobo Center in Detroit.
Presentations and panel discussions will include:

Exhaust Emissions Control ? New Developments
9-10 a.m. ? Room 310B, Cobo Center

Timothy Johnson & Ameya Joshi, Corning Inc
Technical Session Keynote: Trends in Engine Efficiency and Emissions
This review paper summarizes major and representative developments in vehicular emissions regulations and technologies from 2017. The paper starts with the key regulatory advancements in the field, followed by key developments in LD (light duty) and HD engine technology. Lean NOx control technologies are summarized, including SCR (selective catalytic reduction), SCR filters, and combination systems. Following is a review of exhaust particulate filters for gasoline and diesel engines, and then a summary of the key development in diesel and methane oxidation catalysts, and three-way catalysts.

Not Dead Yet?The Ever-Evolving ICE Powertrain
9-10 a.m. ? Leadership Summit at the WCX Exchange

At a time when the promise of self-driving, electric vehicles seems to dominate headlines, a significant portion of the industry's product development, R&D and manufacturing engineering remains linked to the ICE and its Transmission and Driveline. ICE-based powertrains continue to evolve thanks to technology advances making them more efficient, cost competitive, cleaner and better performing. Additionally, they remain vital to future hybrid-electric propulsion. Come hear and engage with leading global powertrain executives as they address next steps for the ICE powertrain?from e-boosters to digital valvetrains to powerful new combustion-control strategies and mild hybridization.

Moderator: Lindsay Brooke, SAE International. Panelists: Dan Nicholson, General Motors Co.; David Filipe, Ford Motor Co.; Tomonori Niizato, Honda R&D Co., Ltd.; Jeff Lux, FCA US LLC; and Dr. John Heywood, MIT

This presentation will be available via live streaming. To access, visit SAE International's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SAEInternational/) at the start time.

Meeting the ARB Low Emission Standard
1-4 p.m. ? Room 250B, Cobo Center

The session addresses the latest emission control technology developments needed to meet the California Air Resource Board's Low Emissions Standards. The current EPA emissions regulations rollbacks are at odds with California's emissions standards. What will it mean to the technology presented during this session.
Organizers - Brad Adelman, Navistar Inc.; Cary Henry, Southwest Research Institute; Krishna Kamasamudram, Ashok Kumar, Cummins Inc.; Ron Silver, Caterpillar Inc.
