Unifor reaches tentative agreement with New Flyer

WINNIPEG, March 29, 2018 /CNW/ - The union at one of Canada's largest heavy-duty transit manufacturers has reached a tentative agreement with their employer, New Flyer Industries.

"I commend the bargaining committee for holding the line on their defined benefit pension plan," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. "These Unifor members have earned their defined benefits plans, and it's an issue worth fighting for."

Unifor Local 3003 represents 750 New Flyer workers in production, skilled trades, and inspection. The facility in Winnipeg builds and services busses used in transit systems used all over North America, including most Canadian cities.

When ratified, the collective agreement will cover the period from April 1, 2018 to June 30, 2022. Local 3003 succeeded in securing annual wage increases, maintained a defined benefit pension plan, and increased employer-paid coverage on various benefits.

"I'm very proud of the work our members do for New Flyer and this contract reflects their contribution," said Mike Deley, Local 3003 Unit Chair at New Flyer.

Unifor Local 3003 members will vote on ratifying the tentative agreement on April 8.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing 315,000 workers in every major area of the economy. The union advocates for all working people and their rights, fights for equality and social justice in Canada and abroad, and strives to create progressive change for a better future.
